STARTBOARD @ Haoshi Demo Day

Thanks to Maycham ‘s invitation, STARTBOARD was invited to attend Haoshi Demo Day as a member on March 22nd! This event is held by Haoshi Accelerator Seed Program, Haoshi Foundation.

Haoshi Demo Day

Although the program was only launched in November 2018, Haoshi has managed to support and introduce 11 highly promising innovative startups in food and agriculture to the general public, government agencies and various investors. Until now, Haoshi remains the first and only accelerator in Taiwan that dedicates to these sectors. Through this meaningful program, the Haoshi Foundation expected to boost creative business models and new advanced technologies in order to address the alarming problems in agriculture.

Among 11 participations, four were the technological enterprises (MeansGood, LEDA technology, ID Water and AgriWeather), four were the food enterprises (Spark Protein, Simpleplus, Amazingrace and Assign Biomedical Science) and the rest were the green farming ones (Beemax, Roksn, and Taiwan Blue Magpie Tea). However, they have all worked on the solution to certain current social issues such as health care, food safety and security or productivity with years of experience.

The second madam from the left in both pictures is the Chairman of the National Development Council, Ms. Chen Mei Ling. We’re honored to meet up with her in this event.

Especially, this time, the eleven startups also had a chance to improve themselves with sharp international perceptions from Dr. David Acheson, the former Chief Medical Officer of the Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Center of the US Food and Drug Administration, Mr. Amir Zaidman from The Kitchen FoodTech Hub – Isreal and Ms. Isabelle Decitre from ID Capital and Future Food Asia – Singapore. Hopefully, given this tremendous support, these Taiwanese entrepreneurs would soon reach out to the world market while keeping their initial goodness to sustainability development.

2018 Malaysia Theme Night

_DSC3639.JPG

On Nov 26th, 2018, we’re so glad to make Malaysia Theme Night alive on stage, and we are genuinely thankful to Anwar Udzir, Representative of Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, to give an opening speech as a special guest. Besides, we also invited three top-notch lecturers to share hands-on experiences with us. In this package, let’s have a quick recap of the main points from our keynote speakers!

_DSC3660

Blockchain can do more for human good!

Will Lu ,CBO of OwlTing Group, walked us through what blockchain can do for people or business with his own hands-on experiences. Many of us may get the concept of blockchain from bitcoin but in effect blockchain can serve for various purposes. Take OwlTing’s agriculture project for example. With the help of blockchain technology, they assist over 1500 farmers in Taiwan to monitor soil quality and humidity as well as crop, whose data are updated promptly on to the internet, ensuring customers would know what they just consumed. By doing so, Will stated, not only have they devised an immutable and transparent traceability as well as a way to find the root cause, but they have built a close bond with local farmers by visiting them and observing the real problems behind the scene.

By taking a close look at your target, you can be famous for more than fifteen minutes.

As a Malaysian student in Taiwan, Ccwhyao always has a dream of his own — to share bits and pieces of his life in Taiwan from the perspective of a foreign student. Sticking to his passion, Ccwhyao initiated a Youtube channel with his classmate, which is called Kao Bei Cold. This channel puts cultural differences between Taiwan and Malaysia under the spotlight in an interesting way, which constitutes the main reason for its popularity among youngsters. Ccwhyao’s got the piece of advice for young people— if you’re so enthused by the notion of creating videos and channel of your own, kickstart one right now, since the best time for you to start is when you’re still a student, when you’re not bound by professional obligations, and most important of all, when failures lecture you with valuable experiences.

_DSC3708

Malaysia, with its diversity and prosperous opportunities, is your next new world to conquest.

Dressing in a formal suit, standing upright on the stage, Yeinnie Tan wowed the audience with her crucial insights into the business environment of Malaysia. As the director of Malaysia Chamber of commerce in Taipei, she kindly introduces numerous resources and opportunities for Taiwanese to explore. She offered such resources as Commerce Development Research Institute and Malaysia Friendship And Trade Center, which we can refer to if we want to start a business in Malaysia. On top of that, she emphasized the importance of finding the correct methods and tools precisely since even if you bury yourself in endless work, the world still cannot find you and people would even not know your existence. Her suggestions indicated that after we located our dream job or interests and that we’re ready to set foot in Malaysia, we still need to take time and figure out how to connect all the strengths such as the diversity in languages and races, and map out the long-term plan in Malaysia.

PokaYoke signed the member agreement with STARTBOARD!

Internationally recognized for providing one-stop website design services, Ananta just officially turned in the member agreement with STARTBOARD.

As the founder of PokaYoke and Consult Dr., Ananta stated that he would register a company under the name of  PokaYoke in both India and Taiwan, while Consult Dr. would continually serve as a supportive resource to PokaYoke.

On top of that, we’re also in a mellow mood knowing that PokaYoke’s services are gaining traction — Currently, this startup is cooperating with the clinics and travel agencies in Vietnam as well as Mexico, with an eye to promoting online reservation systems.

Even when Ananta’s business scheme is on the right track, his type A fiber still keeps driving him forward. For the following two months, he’ll be staying in and exploring Singapore and Vietnam markets. Additionally, in the upcoming July, he is even going to Belgium for educational purpose! It’s undoubted that by keeping himself updated on the latest trends in platform industry, Ananta will continue to wow the target audience with his thoughtful and well-adjusted services!

Triple Matchmaking Event @ National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

On Jan 14th, STRTBOARD was invited to attend Taiwan Rapid Innovation Prototyping League for Entrepreneurs (TRIPLE ) matchmaking event at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.  As a lead player in Taiwan’s startup market, TRIPLE has combined the benefits of SI/ODM, accelerators and research institutes in Taiwan with an eye to providing startup teams with designing, marketing, and researching services. Aside from solid assistance to startup teams, TRIPLE has also been making constant efforts to increase multilateral communication, which is why we got the ticket to the matchmaking event!

During the event, TRIPLE invited top-notch executives from  Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to walk us through their experiences in India and Taiwan and the current startup trends. Established in 1958, IIT Bombay has been making progress along the way, emerging as one of the top technical universities around the globe. Their constant efforts in engineering education and research are world-renowned and with that, they have both built up cooperation with peer universities and institutes as well as created a niche for innovation through their umbrella organization named Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE).

The manager of SINE also took the floor and introduced themselves. Fixing its eyes on fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing tech startups, SINE administers a business incubator providing “scale to scale” support for tech-based startup teams and it manages to facilitate the conversion of research activity into entrepreneurial ventures.

Last but not least, there’re several startup teams from India that grabbed our attention. By and large, most of their services and products concentrate on rooting out social problems in their country with the implementation of cutting-edge technology. Take Kaaenaat for example. Bewaring the problem of traffic chaos in India, which may lead to tragic accidents from time to time, they made good use of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to cut down on the possibility of a car crash. Also, Combat Robotics India Private Limited aims at saving more lives with robot designing.

It’s our pleasure to meet up with institutions with the same ideas at heart for creating a holistic and friendly startup ecosystem; also, getting to know more about startup market in India gives us a clearer idea regarding how to cooperate with teams from this country, which is the icing on the cake. STARTBOARD genuinely looks forward to further collaboration with Indian fellows we met in the event!
